Business Confidence
Entrepreneurs are always going beyond their so-called
comfort zones.
Actually, I don’t like the phrase ‘comfort zone’ – it doesn’t reflect the reality.
These ‘comfort zones’ are in reality
our safety zones.
Where we are now, we know we’re safe. We may not be happy,
or fulfilled, or wealthy, or even comfortable (ironically, since it's supposedly the comfort zone!), but we’re
safe.
Any change, even a change for the better, involves the
unknown. And we humans are programmed to fear the unknown. It might be dangerous.
And of course, for entrepreneurs there’s no guarantee
that the unknown future will be better. The business could fail.
We aren't usually consciously aware of this fear of the
unknown – but our subconscious knows it.
And we entrepreneurs are forging new paths all the time –
without a map! We’re drawing the map, not following
it. We’re deliberately stepping outside that safety
zone.
No wonder it’s scary. No wonder we often lack
confidence.
Here's what entrepreneurs are risking:
We also come up against our beliefs. Our beliefs can serve us, or they can hinder
us. With my tools, I'll help you examine your beliefs and make sure you only carry beliefs which support you.
See below for more about our beliefs.
With EFT, NLP and guided visualisation, I can help you
overcome all of these issues. And then you'll be unstoppable. If you're dragging around all those fears, it's like
driving with the brakes on. It's hard work, is slower than it needs to be, and causes damage. Release/dissolve your
fears, and success is yours!

OUR
BELIEFS
It isn’t just our beliefs
about failure, success, rejection and money which influence us. It’s our beliefs about everything.
But our beliefs are not necessarily
true.
Let me explain.
As infants and young children one of our main jobs is learning how the
world works. We observe and draw conclusions about what we see. We tend to observe the specific but learn it as the
general.
This is essential. If we didn’t generalise we’d never be able to learn
language. We’d never, for example, be able to go somewhere new and automatically know how previously unseen
doors and cups and chairs work.
However it has a downside.
Sometimes we draw the wrong conclusions. Here’s a fictional example: say there
was a child, aged about five, who had finished a beautiful painting which took her hours and of which she was
so, so proud. She stood up to rush off and call her parents to come and have a look at it – but in her hurry
and excitement she accidentally knocked over the dirty paint water and ruined her painting. Her subconscious
may well take that specific incident as evidence of the general principle that: Finishing projects causes them to be destroyed, so it’s not safe to finish them.
Now,
here’s the thing. Our fictional girl wouldn’t even know
that she was carrying this belief. It
would be so deep down in her subconscious that it was
outside her conscious awareness. But yet, the belief would
be there, and her subconscious would act always with regard to that belief.
And so, because there is a danger inherent in finishing projects, her
subconscious, whose job is to keep her safe, would try to stop her finishing any
projects.
Therefore
this girl would find it hugely difficult to finish projects, possibly for the rest of her life. If she did
manage to finish anything it would only be through a huge application of willpower and a strange stressed
feeling. And she would find that the effort would exhaust her, and she would have many unfinished projects
for every one she managed to finish.
The
subconscious has a thousand tricks in order to stop us doing ‘dangerous’ things, a thousand ways to sabotage
our efforts.
I
don’t know why the subconscious doesn’t just say, “Don’t do this, it’s dangerous”. If it did that, and we
consciously knew that it wasn’t dangerous, then we could see it for what it was, and dismiss it or override
it.
Hmm,
maybe that’s why…
All
this, of course, doesn’t just apply to our fictional girl.
It applies to you too. And to me. And to everybody we know.
The
evidence we gather becomes our map of the world – our paradigm. It steers our actions and reactions and hence
our very life. And for entrepreneurs, it steers our success in business.
Some
– indeed, many – beliefs are absolutely true. The ‘belief’ that if you don’t do your VAT returns you’ll get
into trouble with the Revenue is absolutely true. Nothing I’m sharing with you here is going to change that
or help with that. That’s reality, and you can’t argue with reality.
Some
beliefs are true, but the inferences we draw from them are not.
So,
it’s true to say that some – maybe even most – of people to whom you try to sell your service or product will
turn it down. But there are so many conclusions we can draw from that fact. There are conclusions which serve
us and allow us to feel okay about that, e.g.:
· That’s
okay, my product isn’t for everybody.
· Sales
is a numbers game – I’m now that much nearer my next ‘yes’.
·
My sales
pitch wasn’t great – how can I improve it?
Or,
there are conclusions to be drawn from it which absolutely don’t serve us. Note that although I’m giving
clearly articulated examples, in reality these thoughts will probably be below your conscious awareness – in
other words, in your subconscious where the belief is residing – and all you’ll be aware of is a sick dread
feeling. Having said that, examples might be:
· Oh
God I’m useless I can’t do anything right.
· He’s
rejected me, just like X rejected me.
·
This
business is doomed to failure, how did I ever think I could make it?
In
the first example you’ll be able to just calmly continue to the next sales call, or take the time to improve
your sales pitch. In the second example you’ll be upset and will either find excuses not to do any more sales
calls, or will force yourself to do them but do them from a position of weakness and doubt which will, of
course, come across to the prospect.
With
EFT you cannot change the
reality, but you can change the inferences drawn from it from ones which disempower you to ones which empower
you.
Other
beliefs we carry (and again, most likely don’t know we carry) are totally untrue. These are beliefs like:
-
I’m useless.
-
I’ll never succeed.
-
Nobody thinks I’ll be able for this, and they must be right.
-
They all laughed at me that time in fourth class when I spoke out, so I’m useless at speaking in
public.
-
Businesswomen have to be hard to succeed.
-
Nobody would hire somebody of my class/accent/appearance.
-
I
just don’t have what it takes.
Again,
this isn’t about arguing with reality. The belief “I just don’t have what it takes” certainly applies to me
if my ambition was to play basketball for Ireland – I’m 44 and only barely over 5 foot tall!
But
self-limiting beliefs, where we talk ourselves out of things we surely could do, are definitely
untrue.
EFT
is superb at erasing those beliefs and installing empowering beliefs instead. Contact me to easily and
effortlessly programme your mind for success.
Dear Tracey,
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how impressed I was with your course “Confidence
Upon Demand”.
I found the day very enjoyable and beneficial as it tapped on areas which subconsciously I knew were
proving a difficulty for me in my working life but for reasons I didn’t acknowledge or want to face up
to were holding me back.
I realised in your day course that it was lack of confidence and fear of challenging the unknown that
was holding me back. At the end of the day I was clear on areas that needed attention and walked away
with tools to be able to handle these “uncomfortable” situations in a way that I was happy to do
so.
This course was a breath of fresh air, not only did it wake me up to areas that needed attention but I
now find myself looking at all areas of my life and I can honesty say I am looking forward to dealing
with any “uncomfortable” area which will arise.
Thank you sincerely for giving me an enjoyable day out of the office and making me step up to areas
which needed improving in my business, in particular you made me realise that I do work hard and am
fully entitled to get paid for all the work I do and I now feel confident that the next time a
situation arises whereby a client asks me to send out the invoice I won’t revert to my usual “ah no you
are fine” line but instead will thank the client and immediately set about preparing the invoice, I now
realise that I am fully entitled to this money and deserve it, so thank you again.
Thanks again, talk to you soon. |
